Grimm and Sugar: When the Raindrops fallThe rain steadily fell outside the cave. Sugar watched the drops fall into a torrential downpour. She was thankful she had made it inside before she could get completely drenched. Well, she was thankful “They” were able to make it. She felt a drip upon her nose, and a slight bob of her curly blond hair spurred her to look up. If anything this made her move close to the makeshift fire they had made. Holding out her claws, she let the fire warm her cold-blooded body, sending a quick spurt of flame to keep the fire going. For a moment she worried if they had gotten enough wood. They had gathered plenty before this. It always paid to be preemptively prepared. That was a lesson Tamara had taught her. Sugar glanced about the cave that was her home. It was a standard cave, large enough for a group, and with few trinkets of furniture and furnishings to make it liveable. It was so funny, when she was a child, she lived safely within the animal nursery of the Crystal Palace, now she was an adult dragon with her own cave. She supposed she was living like a “real” dragon now. She wouldn’t know. She had never met another dragon, well, besides one other. That very dragon lay near the cave entrance. Never in a million years did Sugar believe she would have married Grimm. Granted there was an age gap between them, but those long years he had spent as a stone statue had preserved him, keeping him at the same age he had been during their final battle with Morgana all those years ago. But here they were, two mates sharing a cave, and perhaps more in time? They hadn’t discussed children. Frankly, a lot about dragon pairs seemed to be instinctual. Granted, they had gone through their courtship ritual, but there hadn’t been anything other than cementing their love. She didn’t want to rush things. After all, dragons were long-lived, so it wasn’t like they would age into senior citizens overnight. Lighting flashed, briefly illuminating the cave, causing the shadows to dance even more so than what the fire could do. Thunder accompanied it, but as it did, a sound rose up. It was soft, and high pitched, yet with a deep grumble to it. Sugar knew what it was, but there were doubts. Her eyes locked upon the red bulk that was her mate. Grimm still lay near the cave mouth, back turned to her and face fixated towards the outside. Another flash of lightning and thunder rang out, and the sound came once more. This time, however, Sugar noticed Grimm’s large frame flinch, almost rising up. “Grimm?” Sugar’s mental voice spoke out. The large dragon grunted with confusion but turned around to face his wife. Sugar inched closer to her, concern evident upon her face, “Are you okay?” Due to his birth defect, Grimm was unable to speak mentally. He had learned some of the Avalon tongue to communicate, but his sentences were short and often fragmented. As Archie could ascertain, learning the human language was not an easy task. Granted, he had many years to perfect it, and with Merlin as a teacher to boot, but there was a reason Grimm never bothered to learn how to speak fully. That and Sugar imagined Kale never bothered to teach him. Despite all that, Sugar knew how to read her husband well. Upon being asked the question, Grimm’s face became firm, and he nodded with a snort. But when the thunder and lightning came again, the sound returned, this time from his mouth. Sugar’s mouth hung open in shock, “Grimm, are you afraid of the storm?” The disbelief was evident in Sugar’s voice. Grimm had always seemed so fearless. When the rain started to fall, the first thing he did was shield her from the rain with one of his wings and hurried them both inside their home. Not only did that prove him as a loving mate, but it showed a certain strength to him as he put his wife before himself. Upon the accusation, Grimm struck an indignant look, letting out a short growl. It wasn’t one of warning, but more of a surprise, and perhaps a display of Grimm showing the aforementioned strength. But then the lighting and thunder came again, and the whimper was all the more evident. Grumm shuddered, wrapping his arms as best he could around his large frame. Sugar could only giggle, “You are.” Grimm didn’t protest or even utter a fragment of a word. He merely looked down disappointingly. Sugar’s mouth hung open slightly and her eyes shined, “Oh my poor Grimmy,” She said sympathetically. Walking over to her mate, Sugar sat beside him, the sympathy never leaving her eyes, “You know honey, it’s okay to be afraid.” Grimm snorted a puff of smoke in protest, but it was clear he was disappointed in himself. “I mean it. If you’re worried if I’ll think less of you, then you don’t have to worry, I could never think that.” Hearing that made Grimm’s body less tense, but a harsh breath exited him. Being this close to Grimm allowed Sugar to take in his scent. To most, Grimm smelled terrible, especially Spike who was most vocal about his displeasure about her and Grimm’s union. Granted, Spike had reached some level of understanding, but it was clear Spike didn’t like Grimm, (and vice versa), and one such complaint was how Sugar could stand to be near such a strong smell. Sugar merely replied Grimm’s smell was “rustic”. Apparently, Kale wasn’t the only one who liked Grimm’s smell. Leaning against her mate, Sugar found herself sinking in. The feeling was so pleasurable, just simply being near her husband brought her joy. Another thing Spike would mention was Grimm’s size, often making cracks at Grimm’s weight. That was another aspect of Grimm that had been present since he hatched, according to Goliath and Wintermane. That and she had heard Kale had fed him a fattening diet from a young age, and obviously kept it up after she was exiled. But, as Sugar would tell Spike, there was just “more of him to love”. Besides, Grimm had learned to utilize his large bulk into strength. There was a reason he was Kale’s muscle. “You know what? I’m not afraid of the thunder, and you want to know why?” Sugar asked. Grimm looked towards his mate with curiosity etched on his face. “Because I have a big, strong, and handsome husband who will protect me from it,” There was no evidence of falsehood within Sugar’s voice. Grimm sat there and listened well, even more so as Sugar leaned into his further, “And if the thunder tried to hurt you, I’d protect you too.” A soft breath entered Grimm, and he felt himself exhale. Without warning, he spread out his right wing and wrapped it as best he could around his wife. Grimm leaned in and he felt a great feeling overwhelm him. All he knew was that he had an intelligent, kind, and beautiful dragoness at his side. The storm still raged outside, but for the first time since it started, Grimm wasn’t afraid. All he knew was if that lighting dared to dart its way in to harm his beloved, he would certainly show the ferocity he had been known for in the past, and at the same time, he knew Sugar would do the same for him. Dragons bonded for life and they would certainly give their lives for one another. As the rain continued to fall outside, the two dragons inside felt no fear, for they had each other, and a pair such as them could take on anything.
Sugar and Kit: A Mother's reflectionThe gardens of the Crystal Palace were serene. Kit took in her surroundings. The royal gardeners certainly kept it looking nice. The bright flowers and the greenery reminded her of her homeland.Just thinking about it made her heart ache for it. Avalon had its splendors, but it paled in comparison to her homeland. But she supposed everyone felt the same way about their respective homes. Though she had many fond memories of her home, there were also painful memories as well. Pains that resulted in a scar, one that lay upon her chest. When a Prism Fox obtained their chest stone, it was a cause for celebration. It was a fox’s first step into adulthood. Kit remembered the day she received her own jewel. She had been so happy. After that little debacle with the witch Kale, her parents had ushered her home and over the years educated her on their people’s history and biology.Happy as she had been to be reunited with her parents, she missed the new friends she had made. She had only encountered the Jewel Riders once after her initial meeting with them, but that one moment of assistance had been the only time. At least until now. She was no longer a cub, now she was an adult, but she wasn’t alone. Her son was off playing in the garden with the baby dragons. Briar, Rose, and Custard were their names. But she wasn’t leaving her son alone without adult supervision. The dragon’s mother was watching them, and she was one Kit could trust.“There you are Kit!”Kit’s ears perked up and turning around she saw a large lean green scaled dragoness. Atop the dragonesses head was a curled mop of blond hair, and around her neck was a replica of the Heart Stone she had often worn in her youth. For a moment Kit nearly reached up and touched the stone that hung around her neck, one very much like the dragoness. The key difference was that this one was real.“Sugar? What are you doing here, where are the kids?” The alarm in Kit’s voice steadily rose.“Relax, I didn’t leave the kids alone, Grimm is watching them,” Sugar answered.Kit’s eyes widened upon hearing that name, “Grimm? You left them alone with Grimm?”Though Kit had been bewitched along with Sugar and their friends Spike and Cleo, Kit held enough of a memory to recall a large red fat dragon serving the woman Kale. Grimm was his name.Even in her entranced state, she gained a good perception of the dragon’s personality: mean, gruff, brutish, cold, the list went on. Not to mention that awful stench of his. Frankly, when she was reunited with her parents, she was happy to at least be away from him. When she first reunited with the now adult baby animals, she had been surprised to find Sugar had become a mother like her, namely of the three baby dragons her son now played with, but she was shocked to learn the identity of their father.“Actually Grimm volunteered, my sweet Grimmy wanted to give me a break you see,” Sugar explained, “Not that I mind watching my sweet little dears, but my husband does love to treat me like a queen.”Yes, Sugar and Grimm were mates. Out of all the things Kit had heard, that was the shocker.Sugar had filled in the gaps for Kit. Apparently, both Grimm and his mistress Kale had been hit with a magic spell that had turned the both of them (as well as the two Dweasels) into stone statues and had remained so until a couple of years ago. For some unknown reason, the spell had been broken, and by chance, Sugar had found him being attacked by dragon poachers. Despite dragons being intelligent creatures, apparently, certain parties found their bones, scales, and even their blood as prized resources. Grimm was injured, but thanks to Sugar as well as Tamara, and her adoptive daughter, Grimm was nursed back to health. Yet during that period, sparks flew, and before long, Grimm and Sugar had fallen in love. Apparently, it was a done deal as dragons mated for life.“Oh, I see,” Kit answered.“Yes, I don’t know how a girl like me can get so lucky,” Sugar sighed, “But that’s my Grimmy, always looking out for his little Sug-Sug.”“Sug-Sug?” Kit repeated in confusion.“That’s the pet name he calls me,” Sugar explained, “I call him “Grimmy”, he calls me “Sug-Sug”.”It was well known that Grimm was unable to speak telepathically, a birth defect that had been present since he had hatched. He had learned enough of the Avalon tongue to form snippets of sentences, but not enough for a full conversation.“Forgive me for saying...but I have a hard time picturing that,” Kit admitted.Sugar turned towards the vixen, but her gaze wasn’t firm, but still remained the same comforting gaze.“Trust me, I know what you mean, but despite all the snorting and sneering, he’s really a big baby at heart,” said Sugar, “He’s always looking out for us, making sure me and the kids are happy,” Mentally Sugar sighed, “He’s such a dream boat.”Kit could feel the love radiating from her psychic voice.“He sounds too good to be true,” Kit noted.“As wonderful as my Grimmy is, he does have his faults,” Sugar stated.“Faults?”“Yes...he tends to be a bit of a greedy gut,”Sugar replied, her voice indicating she was searching for the right word to use.Kit tilted her head, “Greedy Guts?”The term was unfamiliar to the vixen, and Sugar knew that, so clarification was needed.“A glutton,” Sugar simplified.Grimm being a glutton made sense. Just from looking at him, one could see he was overweight, and that usually was the result of overeating.“Now don’t misunderstand, he isn’t eating me out of house and home, it’s just he tends to lose control at festivals, like the last one he helped himself to the buffet table and by the end he was so full I had to help him walk,” The dragoness let out a snort with her actual vocal cords.“That bad?” Kit asked, though from Sugar’s disgruntled expression she already had her answer.“Well the kids found it funny, Briar and Custard at least, and Grimm had this dopey look of satisfaction, but you know what? When I brought him back to the cave, he lay on his back burping and hiccuping, he looks up at me and said “I love you Sug-Sug” right before he passed out.”The mental image of a drunk on food and drink Grimm did bring a chuckle out of Kit, “you sound really happy.”“Grimm has his faults, but he has plenty of positives, he loves me and the kids, and I couldn’t imagine my life without him.”Having a mate that cared about you and the life (or lives in Sugar’s case) you created together was something Kit desired for herself. The more she thought about her son’s father, the more she felt her scar burn.“You’re so lucky,” Kit muttered.Though Sugar agreed with the vixen, she couldn’t help but notice the fox’s forlorn expression, “Are you alright?”Kit didn’t look up, “I’m just thinking about the past.”“About your parents?” Sugar asked.“Yes and no,” Kit sighed.Sugar stared long and hard at the scar upon Kit’s chest, just underneath the Heart Stone, she now bore.“Is it your son’s father?” Sugar asked.Kit wasn’t taken aback by the question. With all her talk about Grimm, it was easy to read what the conversation was about.“Did you love him?” Sugar asked.Kit didn’t need long to answer, “Yes,” There was no hesitation in her voice, “But my people didn’t, hence loving him and having his child got me banished.”“But you don’t regret it right?” Sugar daringly asked.“Of course I don’t, my son is the one jewel in my life,” Staring at her Heart Stone she replied, “Metaphorically speaking.”Sugar eyed the Heart Stone. She had recalled how bitterly jealous she was the day Spike bonded with Gwen’s daughter, receiving the Sun Stone in the process. Despite that, she had remained happy for her friend not wanting to go down the path Kale had gone.Everyone had assumed she would have bonded with Tamara’s girl, seeing as Fallon’s boy had bonded with Cleo and the Moon Stone, but life had a different fate in store for her, a life she was grateful for.“I’m surprised your parents went along with it,” Sugar noted, “Your banishment I mean.”“Life is funny like that, you think your parents are supposed to love and protect you, but in the end when the majority vote wants you out they just listen to them.”Sugar snorted, puffs of smoke escaping her, “I’m sorry,”“Don’t be, I still have my son, and right now he’s one of two things most important to me,” Said Kit, “My only mission now is to keep Avalon safe, for both my Jewel Rider and my child.”Sugar listened to the Prism Foxs’ conviction. That was the determination needed to be a Jewel Rider, and even though she didn’t have an enchanted jewel herself, she would help Avalon in her own way. Both for her children, and her Grimm. That was her mission as a mother. And she wasn’t alone it seemed.
Jewel Riders fanfic part 2Okay continuing off from my last journal ,Jewel Riders fanfictionApril 26, 2021This will only make sense to anyone who has seenWe return to the romance between Grimm and the aged up Sugar. Now as mentioned before, Sugar is at the mating age and Grimm being a male is following his instinct to court her. Spike is of course against this while Cleo has become more receptive if you will. Now as an adult, Spike has grown into a more cynical, sort, or has he puts it, he is a "realist". All the while, Grimm and Sugar grow more and more closer, and Sugar discovers one positive aspect about Grimm. Though he is largely a brute, he is very loyal to those he has affection for.Now I imagine this leads into some kind of conflict between Spike and Sugar as he is totally against the relationship, but Sugar can't help but feel this strong connection with him. Now I imagine conflict rides again with the dragon hunters, and this leads to Grimm defending Sugar, and it is here that Spike sees that Grimm for all intents and purposes does care about Sugar. This leads to the two friends talking and Spike reveals he was simply afraid of Sugar being hurt because she's his friend. The two of them reconcile and Grimm and Sugar complete their mating rites and well...I don't need to explain what follows. The story ends with Sugar and Grimm overlooking their three eggs which hatch into two daughters and a son. The daughters they name Briar and Rose, and the son Custard. And Sugar realizes this is where she is meant to be.Now as for the rest of the minions of Kale? Well I was thinking the same forces that freed Grimm also free Rufus and Twig. Though their journey is a little more comical and hazard filled. By the time they make it to New Camelot, Grimm and Sugar's eggs have hatched. Their reaction to this is "Dumb dragon reproduced!?"Now as for the baby dragon's personalities. Briar is the eldest of the trio and undoubtedly the leader. She looks out for her younger siblings, but she is a very rough housing sort of dragoness. She loves to fight and uses a lot of brute force just like her dad. Rose is the sweet one, she is well behaved and tries to do everything daintily, so much to the point some wonder if she is really spawned from Grimm. Custard on the other hand is a very laid back dragon, and he has a major sweet tooth. He loves candies and pastries of all sorts, and usually one has to resort to bribing him with them in order for him to do something. He is more of a Mama's boy in comparison to his sisters. As for Rufus and Twig, they basically become honorary uncles to the young dragons, and more than often have babysitted them. Though I can imagine several situations where the young dragons become lost and "Uncle" Rufus and Twig have to find them. The two dweasels are afraid of how Sugar would react, but are downright terrified of how Grimm would react. Considering they all worked together, they obviously know how big his temper can be.Sugar would make a great mother, caring for her children and lightly scolding them if they misbehave. Grimm would still be the same Grimm, though his family brings out his softer side, and you can tell he loves them a lot.
